NECO Marking Scheme & Grading System 2024/2025

Every external examination in Nigeria has a Marking Scheme, be it the Joint Admission Matriculation Board JAMB, Or the West African Examination Council WAEC, has a Marking scheme. A Marking Scheme or Grading System is a guideline for allocating total marks to a particular system. This means that the NECO Marking Scheme is a thorough guideline of how total marks are awarded to any subject taken in the Neco Examination.

And to let the cat out of the bag, kindly do us some Favor by sharing this post link to your various social media platforms thank you.!!

The Neco marking scheme is more simpler than WAEC which is why Neco is more easier to ace than WAEC. all subjects in Neco are graded with a 100% marking scheme just like any other examination of its nature, no matter the subject you sat for, be it that it has theory, Obj, or even a practical test, the total marking scheme is graded 100%.

How is the NECO Examination Marked?

So to answer this question, I will use the English Language as a point of contact for every other subject that candidates write in NECO. To achieve an A1 grade in NECO English, you must score above 75%, equivalent to correctly answering at least 75 out of 100 questions.

In a subject with 50 questions, 75% is approximately 38 questions answered correctly, resulting in a grade of A1. This calculation applies to all subjects, encouraging students to predict and calculate their NECO scores accordingly.

The NECO Marking Scheme 2024

This is to inform every candidate, that NECO has released a new marking system for its examination markers. Unlike the WAEC Marking system, the new Neco marking scheme is a little bit harsh, no wonder some say Neco is easy and some say Neco is more difficult than WAEC, regardless of which I want you to know that you can ace your NECO from the help we provided here on our website.

The system NECO uses to make its examination scripts is known as COEM and it stands for:

C = Content

O = Organization

E = Expression

M = Mechanical Accuracy

NECO employs different marking schemes for each subject, tailoring the evaluation process to the unique characteristics of each discipline. The focus here is on the core science courses: Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

Mathematics:

  • Comprises 13 theory questions and 50 objectives.
  • The theory section is divided into Part I and Part II.
  • Candidates must answer 10 questions, with a distribution of all Part I questions and 5 from Part II.
  • The theory section contributes 60% of the total marks, while the objective section contributes 40%.

Physics, Chemistry, and Biology:

  • Each subject includes practical, objective, and theory sections.
  • Practical section: 35% of total marks.
  • Objective section: 25%.
  • Theory section: 40%.

English Language:

  • Features 160 objective questions (including Oral English) and a theory section covering comprehension, writing, and essays.
  • Theory section holds the majority of marks at 60%, while the objective section carries the remaining 40%.

Understanding and excelling in each subject requires candidates to be familiar with the specific marking schemes for that subject, with emphasis on the distribution of marks across different sections. This comprehensive approach ensures a nuanced evaluation of students’ performance in diverse subjects within the NECO examination.
