History Of NECO

The National Examinations Council (NECO) was created in April 1999 because people in Nigeria wanted a national exam that understood their needs and could handle the growing number of students taking the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) each year. The government made this decision after several discussions and investigations by different groups.

The need for a new exam system started in 1977 when there was a big problem with questions leaking in the West African School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). People were very upset about this, so the government formed a commission called Sogbetun to find out why it happened and suggest what to do. The commission found that the West African Examination Council (WAEC), which managed the exam, had too much work, and it was hard for them to do everything well.

• The 2024 NECO registration is scheduled to commence on December 13th, 2023, and will end on June 20th, 2024. It’s important to note that the NECO website will be inaccessible after June 20th, 2024. 

• To check your NECO Result for 2024 online, you need the exam year, exam type, token, and registration number.

• After paying the registration fee, it’s crucial to note that the money is non-refundable, and the Council is not responsible for any registration mistakes; therefore, it is advisable to register at reliable cyber cafes to minimize the risk of errors.

• Late registration attracts an extra N1,000, and walk-in registration from November 15th to November 19th, 2024, incurs a N25,000 fee per candidate, and registration must be completed a day before the scheduled exam date.
